Spinner Premieres “What I Want” Video

French Horn Rebellion (Robert and David Perlick-Molinari) announce the release of a new What I Want EP on November 29th and an accompanying “What I Want” video shot in the South Korean capital city of Seoul during their first Asian tour, directed by local director Youngsam. Spinner premiered the video today.

 

"After the Japanese earthquake, our tour there was cut short, so we spent some extra time in South Korea," French Horn Rebellion's David Perlick-Molinari tells Spinner. "We wanted to do something fun there so we sought out a local director with the help of our South Korean label, Happy Robot Records, and made this video in two days with an all-Korean crew. The fact that we didn't speak each other's language made the experience really amazing to me because it forced us to engage in a really healthy, mutually trusting creative relationship that then resulted in a video for “What I Want” that we all really like."

The band follow recent live dates as part of CMJ, shows in Chile and Columbia and a highly successful Spring US tour with French Electro pop act Yelle with the announcement of new headlining Asian dates and their first Australian shows with Architecture in Helsinki, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs etc to finish 2011 and kick off 2012!

The What I Want EP features two new songs including “I Go To Seoul”, a track written and recorded in South Korea earlier this year and a collaboration with all female Korean group The Speakat girls.

On the back of just three EP’s to date and the self release of their debut album The Infinite Music of French Horn Rebellion, the brothers, originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, have already toured and played with the likes of Hot Chip, Sleigh Bells, The Drums, Cut Copy and SebastiAn and have been tipped by everyone from Q Magazine, The Guardian, Time Out and French music bible Les Inrockuptibles to hometown publications such as The New York Times and NY Daily News. The band have remixed Empire Of The Sun, MEN, Two Door Cinema Club, OMD and Alex Winston.

La New heArt CitY est honorée de présenter la deuxième exposition personnelle parisienne de l’artiste américain Rob Hay.

 

New Works Parmi l’éventail d’expériences esthétiques que l’on peut appréhender dans les dernières oeuvres de Rob Hay, la toute première est peut-être la sensation de reconnaissance : je «connais » cette personne, je « connais » cette démarche, ce regard, ce geste. J’ai déjà vu ces personnages ; ce sont nos semblables, nos contemporains. Ses oeuvres expriment une grâce tranquille. Elles sont animées de figures, souvent parcourues d’un mouvement, dénotant un bel esprit visuel, mais c’est toujours cette grâce tranquille – celle qui se présente face à une vision sincère et vraie – qui capture notre attention. Cette infinie série d’honnêtes observations se conjugue à l’économie atteinte dans le langage pictural. Ces oeuvres respectent et sont les héritières d’une noble tradition, et pourtant elles sont d’une nouveauté absolue. Créés sur cette surface abstraite, unifiés par une grille imperceptible et d’une grande modernité, les personnages de Hay se présentent eux-mêmes. Ils observent tout autant que nous les observons, ils bougent, ils se reposent, ils jouent. Ils font simplement et honnêtement ce que nous faisons à notre époque : ils vivent. S’accomplit ici quelque chose de bien singulier : l’humanité de ses oeuvres, créant un espace contemplatif des plus innovants, synthétise une honorable tradition et une subtile perspective contemporaine.

 

Rob Hay est né en 1977 à Louisville, Kentucky, USA et a passé une grande partie de son enfance dans les Appalaches rurales, une situation qui a imprégné significativement sa peinture. L’Art a également été partie intégrante de son jeune âge puisque sa mère, professeur d'art, et son père, professeur également, l’ont entouré de monographies d'art et de fournitures de dessin pour Noël. Hay a étudié au Memphis College of Art avant de recevoir sa maîtrise en arts plastiques de l'Université Marywood en 2008 où il était conférencier.

Durant cette époque, il a commencé une série d'oeuvres en réaction à la Phénoménologie de la perception de Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Ses derniers travaux traduisent de façon évidente l’évolution de son approche. Rob Hay a largement exposé aux Etats-Unis dans des galeries privées ainsi que dans des lieux publics, y compris le « Dallas Museum of Art ». Il est représenté par Taglialatella Galleries à New York City, Palm Beach, et maintenant à Paris.  Il réside actuellement avec sa femme à Jersey City, New Jersey.
